Uncovering Exporter and Importer Trade Data

An International Trade Data Users Conference and Workshop
Sponsored by The International Gateway at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center

December 4, 2007

International Trade Center/Ronald Reagan Building
13th and Pennsylvania Avenues, NW Washington, DC
Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center

Detailed information on U.S. waterborne trade by exporters and importers is available from Customs & Border Protection (CBP). However, there are many misconceptions regarding this data source, on how it is collected, what it contains, where to get it, and how to best use it in international trade. This conference seeks to lift the fog surrounding the data.

The program includes an update on trade data from the U.S. Census Bureau – Foreign Trade Division. The theme of the conference will be the detailed vessel manifest information available on U.S. exports and imports, and from most Latin American countries and China.

Our panels of experts will cover the legal basis of why CBP can provide detailed company information, but DOC/Census cannot. You will learn what data is available from CBP, how it is collected, and how this data source compares with the commodity information provided by the Census Bureau’s Foreign Trade Division. Data providers will discuss the difficulties in processing the raw data which can affect its comparability with other sources.

See how data system providers enable you to access this information and how each has applied its unique skills to make it more applicable to users’ needs. Utilize this opportunity to meet other data users and benefit from the exchange of ideas and experiences. Have your questions answered directly by the data providers. See examples of how the data is used by government agencies, transportation companies, consultants, manufacturers, importers and distributors.

Take advantage of this unique opportunity to learn more about this valuable resource on international shipments by importers, exporters, and foreign suppliers.
